history
Pop was born as a musical genre in the mid 50s in the United Kingdom and the United States. Although it began a few decades earlier, in the 50’s it was when it became popular. Throughout these years, pop was only used to refer to the most popular, soft and accessible music of rock and roll. The appearance of bands like The Beatles were, without a doubt, the beginning of pop and the evolution to what we know today. In the 80s, pop was associated with a particular way of dressing and was connected with the world of fashion trends. This is something that continues nowadays. To this day, pop has been influenced by technology and the development of the recording industry. It has become one of the most listened genres in the world. On the other hand, disco was born from the name discotheque, representing the type of dance from a nightclub. It’s characterized by hypnotic rhythms, repetitive lyrics, brass and horns, and electronically produced sounds. Disco songs are typically about dancing, partying and romancing, just like pop, but there are other songs with deeper messages. Disco music used to be very similar to pop but now the two styles are very different.
